As some of you will know, I keep a close eye on my fuel usage (as many do these days) but yesterday was a particular example.
I use a few different data feeds to look at various aspects of both electric use and gas consumption.
Although the OVO usage page does now show electrical usage during the current day (approx 1 hr behind actual), it doesn’t show any gas use until the next day.
For this I use my Hildebrand/Glow IHD and the Bright app which tracks electrical use approx 10 secs behind time and gas in 30 minute segments.
Yesterday I saw this

Which confused me as after an initial heating burst on a cold morning, there is usually no gas usage apart from a blip now and then for cooking or hot water. So the regular low level during the day was rather baffling.
I thought nothing of it until late afternoon when I began checking because at that low level the Chameleon IHD didn’t show anything significant as the cost/kWh level was not very high.
Lo and behold, I found a gas burner on the cooker was not quite off after someone had cooked their porridge for breakfast. I couldn’t smell any gas as it was at such a low level of escape but as can be seen from the graph, the trickle was then gone.
These rapid updates of usage are quite effective in being able to seek out anomalies and I hope that all users are able to see this before too long.

Hildebrand to the rescue in this case!

I’ve done that before with gas hobs which can be turned down very low but don’t get blown out. Dangerous and a waste!

It’s a plus side of only have a limited number of gas appliances - one can quickly check every one. I wish it was that simple for vampire electrical devices!

We had a  very small gas leak in our gas   hob once.

I suspect it is not an appliance like a gas boiler that gets regularly checked by most(?) people.

It got picked up when our gas boiler was serviced before we had a smart meter.

Our hob is electric in our current house.
