Can anyone explain what’s going on here?

Opening balance was £335, we used around £90 worth of electric/gas combined (£66 government payment was taken off this, hence the £22 charge), I paid £150 so by my reckoning the balance should have gone up by around £125.

It hasn’t though - they seem to have then deducted the £66 again.

Does anyone know why? Do I need to contact them or will it right itself?

No, you’d only be refunded the government £66. The £41.88 is the result of your charge for the month. If it’s negative that’s because your energy costs less than that £66.

If you put a pic of it on here (no personal info like account number) I’ll just check and be sure if you’d like.

Perfect @Sarah illing thanks !

So just looking at the ‘Charges in detail’ section: all your electricity and gas charges plus VAT add up to £23.12, (all shown as positive numbers). You’ve been given the government £66 (shown as negative as it’s the opposite of a charge, ie money in).

I hope I’m not making this more complicated than it is !!

So with 66.00 in and 23.12 out you end up with 41.88 in

Your bottom line says Total Credit £41.88 in

Now going back to the other section: You start with your balance in credit (136.63), then add the ‘charges’ which in this case is another credit (the 41.88 in), they add up to 178.51, that £66 is refunded to your bank, so 178.51 - 66.00 = 112.51. So the account is still £112.51 in credit.

Phew !

Of course all this is updated daily so the numbers will be slightly different today, but your original question about the date of getting the £66 is answered too. It will go out on 26th.

You’re wonderful, you should work for OVO better still our government you'd do more of a sterling job 😊 thanks for your help in this, much appreciated.

My October account has the £66 energy rebate deducted from it but no where has £66 been credited.
The bill says “refund: -£66” and the total is only the amounts I paid in minus £66.
I called and was told this is a credit, but it’s actually a debit. Anyone else checked?

Mine is the same. A negative refund is a charge and is reflected in the total. I am in credit but by £66 less than I should be. I understand £66 will be refunded to my bank account in a few days but it seems my usage is higher by that amount so am I actually getting anything back at all.

I had the same issue but I think I now know what's happening. On my current balance I also have £66 debited and it reduced my credit balance BUT on looking closer my bill up to 23 October is actually reduced by this amount, it is then added after this date and will be refunded into my bank account, which is what I believe is supposed to happen. It will be interesting to see going forward if we get a reduction in the bill then a charge then a refund to our banks.

I had same ..in £66 Ovo account out £66 Ovo account.

bank account credit £66

I am having the same issue. I have scrolled down to see more details but the math doesn’t add up. My bill is only £45 and I’m being deducted. Am I supposed to receive credit in my bank account? I hope Ovo solves this. I can’t believe they are able to steal money from customers in this way if not.

Show us your billing info in MyOVO please. We’ll figure this out. We especially need to see the Charges in detail section.

I have received £66 into my account.

I have see deduction of £66 on charges and have understood this.

but then on my balance the have taken another £ 66 off which means it does not balance out correctly

I have not been given the £66 government payment but have had £66 taken out of my balance. So does that mean that they now have to give me £132? For the first payment, who is getting the interest on the money and where has it gone?

Hi @Paul Ivor ,

Did you check the Charges in detail section by any chance? It should show a credit with the line entry Energy Bill Support Scheme.

OVO won’t get any interest out of this - the government insisted on clawing back any and all interest that OVO might earn from it.

Howdy @Anitawa

Please post screenshots of your Billing Details from MyOVO. We’ll see if we can figure this out.

https://account.ovoenergy.com/billing-details

You’re specifically looking for something like this example.

It sounds like the Energy Bill Support Scheme has been delivered though and £66 went back to your bank account.

As you can see there is no £66 payment in only one going out!

Try tapping See details for both the 28 Oct 2022 - 28 Oct 2022 and 28 Sep 2022 - 27 Oct 2022 periods. If you then scroll down, it should show up under one of them.

If you still can’t find it, OVO’s Support Team will be happy to try and track it down for you. If it didn’t come through for some reason, they’ll also be able to force it through manually.

Hey @Paul Ivor,

Are you able to select ‘see details’ and send us a screenshot?

Also are you able to check the same on the Online Account?

Let’s get to the bottom of this!

Just checked the one before in the break down and it shows £66 going into the account. But why would it go straight back out?

My app seems to be different each time I look at it this morning. Although it still shows -£66 out the closing balance has gone up by £66!

@Anitawa You are seeing the deduction on charges - that is where the £66 government money is coming into your account, it is a negative charge.

It’s not the clearest way of stating it but that is the £66 being paid to you, then goes from your OVO account into your bank.

Although it now shows a direct debit £118 which should not be there. Looking at the amounts I still can't work it out. I think I need a creative accountant to know what's going on.

Hi @Paul Ivor You are seeing this in real time ! First screen was the position before your DD came in, second screen has your DD of £118. Both show the refund of £66 going out to your bank.

The details in the breakdown shows the money coming in. That’s the way OVO do it as per government guidelines for DD customers.

**update** what makes you say the DD shouldn’t be there ?

I hope you can help me clarify my payments.

I received the £66 in my bank account on 17th Oct, then it has been added to my energy bill, which was confusing.

I understand now understand from previous posts here that there should also be a deduction of £66 in my energy bill, which all offset each other but I don’t have it (see below).  Do you think it will be updated nearer my billing date, or have I missed something?

Try checking the previous billing period. :)

Hi, thanks it was in the pervious billing period.

I’m sure it’s all processed in this way for a very good reason, but how confusing for the consumer.  Not the best customer journey.

thanks again.

These comments still don't make sense. Like any standard double entry accounting you get your start balance, add any credits to it then take away any deductions. If you apply the -66 as a credit your final balance should be 132 more than it actually shows. Ignoring the payment to the bank There should be 2 entries on my account for it to make sense.  A credit of 66 and then a deduction for the refund.  These should show against the month they are actioned and every example shown only shows the single entry with everyone's balance 66 quid short.
