Live in Aberdeenshire and can not get smart meter to connect tried several times. If I put a CTi whip multiband antenna in would this work and where best to install in attic or on roof. I get no help from OVO when phone to ask this as you just get to speak to customer service and if it’s not on their script …..

Hi @lad12 ,

This kind of question is often a bit beyond what the Support Team are trained on as it’s somewhat advanced tech stuff. However, it’s something this forum excels at - especially with Forum Volunteers such as myself.

I’m afraid not. Smart Meters in your area (based on what you’ve said) run on the Long-Range Radio based Arqiva WAN. The only known fix is for Arqiva to build out more infrastructure in Scotland.

The only other known workaround is a giant cabinet full of gadgets hooked up to a giant aerial on the roof, but that probably costs well over £50,000 like the one at OVO’s Bristol HQ. It’s not a practical solution for production use though unfortunately.

Hi @lad12 have you checked if any of your close neighbours have a working smart meter?

Yes I know one across the road has one but I think it took some time to get it up and running.

Hi @lad12

Do you know what needed to be done to get it  working?

Did the energy supplier/DNO fit an aerial for example?

Are they also with OVO?

Can you run this check to see what it says

https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/

Also to try and rule out if it is an ovo issue, if you haven't already try one of the 3rd party apps

They can only see a subset of data that ovo can see on meters but it is a useful check

AFAIK external aerials can’t be fitted to Comms Hubs in the Northern Territory

Hey @lad12,

Welcome to the OVO Online Community,

Great to hear your keen to get a smart meter installed, but I'm sorry you’ve hit some road bumps.

Jeffus has asked some interesting questions here, once we find out a bit more I can ask one of our smart meter experts who may be able to offer some helpful advice 😊
