I have smart meters in for both gas and electric, they left the old meters in, is it possible to get the bulky ones removed and leave the smart meters in as don’t want to be disconnected, would just like the old ones out

Hi @TracyB ,

I think that can be arranged. Have a chat with OVO Support and they can talk this one through with you.

Have you got photos for us to peek at by any chance?

Hi @TracyB,

As our forum volunteer Blastoise has said, this shouldn’t be an issue but a photo of your meter set up would be helpful if you’re able to do so. We’d be able to give more accurate advice. Our Support team should also be able to help further with this.

Please let us know how you get on.

Hmm… Looks like those Secure branded meters are your current ones?

If they are inactive though, OVO can probably remove them, but you’d need to be sure first.

Try pressing buttons on both and see if they react.

Smart meter is top left still working, would just like old ones removed to give me more cupboard space when I get new kitchen

Gotcha. Have a chat with the team via Live Chat at https://ovoenergy.com/help and they’ll see what they can do for you.

My eyesight isn’t exactly 20/20, but I only see two meters: a Secure Liberty 100 smart electricity meter and a Secure Liberty EG4v11 smart gas meter. The gas meter is a bit bulky, but that’s a fact of life. The smart bit is just fitted on to the front of the meter itself; this is what sends its data to the electricity meter for it in turn to communicate with both the IHD and the supplier. I can’t see anything in your pictures that doesn’t have to be there.

I think you’re either going to have to live with this arrangement or perhaps move the electricity meter down to be alongside the gas meter. That would be a major operation, though, involving not just OVO but also the electricity distributor who would have to move the cut-out (the bit with the red-and-white label) and fit it to a new backboard along with the electricity meter. That would cost hundreds of pounds in total.

Hi yes it’s my fault after taking to a very nice person, I didn’t realise that the big bulky one was the smart meter for the gas, my mistake

Hi @TracyB,

Glad to hear that you’ve managed to get to the bottom of this.
