I don't know what to think. My second most expensive appliance according to the app's graph is "heating". Well, my 2 radiators have been switched off, as in literally switched off from the wall switch for the last 2 months, so how is it still showing that they're being used?

Are we being charged wrongly or is it that the appliance breakdown is bogus??

This is this week and last. It says last week we used over 4 quid in heating but it was 100% off! Disconnected!! How can that be then??

It also says the heating readings are calculated based upon the gas we use but we don't have any gas supply at home and the app profile has that info.

Is this appliance breakdown just a gimmick?

Thanks

Hi @RebeccaBuck , yes .. the app tries to use an ‘associated’ energy signature but it’s not very good at present. The only way to do this accurately is to have measuring sensors on each appliance. Not easy

I don’t think it’s very useful - I have an air source heat pump and it can’t cope with that. It tells my most of my gas is used for heating, and my only gas appliance is a hob . A gimmick as you say.

I think its much more useful to look at the half hourly usage charts to see where your energy’s going.

Hey @RebeccaBuck

Sorry to hear the tracker isn’t running as well as you’d expect it to.

We can never know 100% which appliances you have plugged in or using gas but can make suggestions based on the usage patterns (i.e a short burst of gas usage is more likely to be a gas hob than a boiler which might use a lower level of gas for a longer period), but rest assured that you’ll never be charged for energy that you don’t end up use. OVO Greenlight isn’t perfect, but it’s designed to learn over time.

Like some of our great volunteers have said, the half hourly usage charges direct from the smart meter will be an accurate measure of the usage, and you may want to use that instead, as this is the energy usage taken directly from the meter readings.

The questions are under the usage breakdown .. at the bottom of the page, although they don’t help that much to be honest

Thanks everyone that was very useful info!

It'd be great if as a first step at least it discerned that we don't have gas at all - ie electric only vs gas & electric houses. That'd make for a much better UX. Same as the advice above being in a tooltip or such

Cheers!
