Hi There,

Bit of an odd one here.

Used gas last night as per usual no problem but came into house early tonight (23rd) and no gas throughout house.

Checked with neighbours and their supply was ok so tried to contact OVO but it was shut.

Went outside to check gas meter and the display was blank so in desperation turned off stop valve and pressed the red and black buttons several times and opened the valve again.

Eventually the display lit up with the message "opening valve " and then the display returned to a normal setting.

I went back into house and the gas supply was as back.

Is this normal as I know electricity trips but gas and is it likely to happen again and is it safe.

Any explanations would be great

Thanks in advance

Howdy @Cutliff !

Could you show me photos of that Meter real quick? Also, are you PAYG or PAYM?

If you’re PAYM, then this shouldn’t happen, but it’s not a safety issue. The display will be blank when the Meter is in Sleep Mode, but the supply should remain on.

If you’re PAYG, the valve should NOT close whilst you’re in credit.

Hi Blastoise186

Many thanks for quick response.

I'm a monthly direct debit with plenty of credit and found the situation odd.

As long as its not a safety issue that is my main concern and can deal with anything else that happens.

Regards

Cutliff

Hmm… 2011 unit…

I think the battery might be getting a little low. When it’s convenient, feel free to ask OVO to check the remaining battery via SMETS Commands. Opening times are below.

Happy Christmas!

Hi Blastoise

Thanks very much for the advice and will get on to OVO once Santa has been.

All the best and have a super Christmas and fantastic 2025 👍👏

We’ll be here if ya need us! :D
