I recently switched to OVO and have started to use Charge Anytime successfully with my BMW i4: The Android app installed and set itself up faultlessly and my first charge worked as expected.

Now I am attempting to get it working with my wife’s Cupra Born on her iPhone. The app installs and successfully links to our OVO account and her Cupra account but then it gets stuck at ‘Trying to locate your Cupra’ and there are no options available to try and change, for example, the pinpointed location of the charger in case that is the problem. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn’t help either because Apple ‘helpfully’ re-uses the previously entered settings, so it starts up at the ‘Trying to locate your Cupra’ page and not at the beginning of setup.

The car’s location is showing correctly in the Cupra app and is updating so I am not sure how to proceed.

Any advice?

Hi @hmillington and thanks for posting this.

It might be worth looking at this topic:

Can you let us know if you’ve already got these separate logins set up?

Customers will need to register separate email addresses/logins on the Charge Anytime app for each vehicle they want on Charge Anytime. The only way to register multiple vehicles is to use a different email account (i.e Google or Apple) for each one. They should register another vehicle by downloading the app on other device (phone or tablet) and registering it with different user credentials (Apple or Google) from the first app.

The OVO login credentials stay the same when they register and the credits earned for both EVs will be added together and applied to the OVO account each calendar month. If customers have 2 vehicles on the same manufacturer app, they'll need to remove one vehicle, create a new account with the manufacturer with a different login, then link the removed vehicle to this login before registering it with Charge Anytime.

Tim,

Yes -- my wife used her Apple ID, on her own device, for creating the Charge Anytime account. The only thing shared between hers and mine is the OVO account login.

Tried again just now, by logging her out and back in again and it’s still ‘trying to locate your Cupra’.

I also tried logging out of CA on my phone and then logging out/in on hers but that has not improved things either :-(

Thanks for trying and confirming, @hmillington. Can you flag this to our Smart Home team so they can take a look at your account ‘under the hood’: smarthome@ovoenergy.com

Is ‘under the hood’ now out of date with EVs?

I did so yesterday, Tim, and Nathan replied, but his response was boilerplate:

In order to add a second EV to Charge Anytime you will first need to ensure the new EV is compatible with Charge Anytime.

You can view a list of eligible EVs and chargers here

You will then need to create a second account using different sign in credentials than what you used for the first EV (usually on a second device).

You can then link the second Charge Anytime account to the same OVO account, you just need to ensure you login to Charge Anytime using different device credentials (Apple ID/ Gmail account).

We will be introducing a second step soon that will require the second Charge Anytime account to have its own MyOVO login to the same OVO account. This means that the second account/ person will need to be liable on your OVO account and have their own email address (you can set this up by calling the OVO Care team on: 0330 303 5063).

For now you can just set up a second Charge Anytime account and this should be fine. We will notify you if a second email is required for the MyOVO linking in the future.

Thanks,

Nathan

Hopefully he’ll look into it a bit more now I’ve confirmed that doing as suggested has not helped.

Apparently multi-car support is not yet implemented unless you have a compatible charger.

I will post Nathan’s response here in case it’s of help to someone else in future:

“Sorry there was some confusion with your original email as I was under the assumption that you were using one of the eligible Ohme/Indra smart chargers as having multiple vehicles set up is only possible with one of those at this moment in time. As you are using the app direct to vehicle you can only set up one EV and we would recommend using the one with the largest battery.

“We are currently working on implementing multi vehicle support in the next major update and hope to have it added in the next 4 to 8 weeks”

Thanks @hmillington, I’ve just had this same advice told to me. We’ll update our content to reflect this change.
