Hi, I’ve been reading the thread about solar panels and THTC. This may be asking for a repeat of some of what’s been said but I’m totally new to this, so sorry…

I’ve been offered solar panels and storage battery via some government funding that’s available at the moment, so free to me incl installation. I have two meters. (One is THTC that was.) From what I’ve been reading it sounds like if I go ahead with installation there is no point, indeed possible danger, of connecting the panels to the THTC meter.
But could they be connected to the meter to impact on the rest of the electricity (lighting, cooker etc) ?
And could/would excess electricity once battery full, eg summer, go back into the grid (while it would be nice to receive money for it, I’m not so concerned about that) via that meter ?

I know this not the best option as the other meter is obviously measuring much greater electric usage, but is this a way at the moment to at least allow solar panels to have some impact on my overall electricity usage ?
Thanks

Hey @GJul ,

Gonna be honest here… Anything THTC related is a minefield in itself at the moment - especially with the upcoming transition to Smart Meters. As a result, now might not be a good time to be installing Solar in your case. If you’re able to, I’d highly recommend waiting until that’s done before getting Solar installed.

Was there a time limit on that funding?

Yes, apparently we’re at the end of one phase of funding so timing is tight, and there’s a possibility of more next phase but not definite…so it’s possibly a one off opportunity.

Hmm… I see…

Let me ask around backstage - I’ll be back soon!

Hi @GJul , there’s no actual limitation for solar (and batteries) with any system as such .. after all electricity is electricity.
What might not be possible is to use any sort of export tariff (like SEG) but you’re right that the system should be capable of reducing your grid usage.
You will need an installer who fully understands your system so that connections are made at the right point. Perhaps ask in advance if they’ve done anything similar
