Our next online event: Smart Home Trials and Technologies

May’s online meet up

It’s May, and it’s time to RSVP to our latest upcoming meet up. We’re not able to do this in person, so just like the event we had in April, it’s going to be online. 

Agenda

Following a vote we had last week, you chose OVO’s Smart Home Trials and Technologies as the focus. Oh yes, there’s a lot we can talk about!

We’re currently involved in several trials focusing on technologies that would help to decarbonize the grid.  Want more info on these, have a look here:

• Powervault Battery Trial 
• Zero Carbon Homes 

OVO ran the largest ever trial of Vehicle to Grid (V2G) electric vehicle (EV) chargers, which stopped accepting new registrations in March 2020.

As it happens, lots of participants in these trials are also OVO Forum community members. So I’m really looking forward to getting a bunch of you together, alongside interested members, so we can hear more about the trial and the technologies involved!

I’m happy to confirm that at least one of the project team members working on the trials with air source heat pumps will be attending this event. I'm excited to have them there to hear from you all, and to gather common themes from your insight. That said, I won't be expecting them to answer questions, especially regarding specific installations or issues. We'd want you to discuss this directly with our OVO Smart Home support team: smarthome@ovoenergy.com.

I believe technologies like the ones being trialed will be key to OVO’s Plan Zero mission. So I’m super excited to hear from early adopters, and learn from their learnings. It’s what this online forum is all about after all!

Platform:

We’re using Google Meet again, which is free, cloud based (so no installs), admittance based and comes with some cool features! To avoid a repeat of what happened in our last event with members not able to join the meeting or find the link, here’s the URL which you can simply copy and paste into your browser when the time comes: meet.google.com/moi-dxom-eoj

It’s recommended that you log out of your Google account, or go ‘Incognito’ in your browser before joining, to avoid your Google account name being shown. No personnel information such as email addresses is visible, and you’re able to choose to have your video and microphone off/on before joining.

Guidelines

• After we’ve all had a chance to say hello and catch up, we ask that everyone mutes their microphone, giving one person ‘the floor’ to speak and be heard. 

• When you have ‘the floor’, we suggest you make an extra effort to speak loudly or ideally into a headset microphone, and at a reasonably slow pace, to make sure everyone can follow. 

• To make the group aware that you’re keen to have ‘the floor’, you’re able to use the ‘Raise hand’ feature on Google Meet. 

• If you have a question or reaction for the person who has or had ‘the floor’, you’re able to use the ‘Chat to everyone’ feature of Google Meet. We will have a dedicated note taker who will make sure any questions are raised.

• Please respect everyone’s right to be heard, to remain private (please use chosen names or forum user names), and to be free from abuse.
