SSE to OVO - How can I view my previous meter readings?

Userlevel 1

The OVO online account advised I could consult previous 2 years’ SSE usage and billing records. That wasn’t the case - until today.
I note that ONLY the E&G bills totals and payments are showing - and nothing on usage, detailed and/or cumulative.
I need to identify both gas and electricity historical usage over 2 years - not just the money paid - to help project current > future usage and inform a discussion about current/future billing.

OVO has access to this information. How can I access it?

Hi @oldbilbo

While you are waiting for OVO, you could try one of the third party apps that some of us use. For example the Bright App is available for Android and Apple.

https://glowmarkt.com/

This may show your previous usage, but i have never looked how it handles the switch from SSE to OVO so it would be interesting to know if you try the app.

Hi @oldbilbo

Can you see your SSE usage on this page?

https://account.ovoenergy.com/usage

No. Using the < > symbols at page-top, I get this unhelpful text:

Your 2021 energy use

Looks like we couldn’t find your usage data

We’ll take a look at this shortly, please try again later.

Ovo has access to my previous SSE data. At present they’re blocking my access, for some reason.

Hi @oldbilbo

How far back do the meter readings go?

https://account.ovoenergy.com/meter-readings/history/electricity

https://account.ovoenergy.com/meter-readings/history/gas

You could try asking SSE directly rather than OVO to email you copies of your old bills in the short term. Not ideal, but also not an unreasonable request i think.

Did you decide to give the Bright app a go?

It sounds like OVO haven't migrated all your data. We have seen this with several customers. I am flagging @Jess_OVO  as she recently looked into a particular customer, she may have some general input about how widespread the issue is and what OVO are doing to resolve the issue generally.

Hello, Jeffus….

Well, you are turning out to Be A Hero.

Those two URLs “…//account….” worked for me, and I’ve extracted the info I need. Many thanks for that.
Perhaps the info wasn’t there before; perhaps I didn’t know my way around the OVO client website ( flingrtrubl? ), but I can happily go number-crunching now.

The ‘Bright App’ suggested seems to have functionality only with smart meter installations.  My setup has a ‘first gen’ one o’ they in the gas box/not the ‘lecky…. and it did not/does not/never did function.

Given the multiple reports of customer angst among those with more recent Smart Meters - and being of an ‘analogue’ age - I’m deeply unconvinced they are smart enough yet to provide me with benefit sufficient to justify my putting up with them here.

‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!’

‘Going for net zero’ is also a noble aim. Some will find the pathway easier than others. This property is 110 years old and has provided ‘poorly insulated’ but dry accommodation to several generations. As one who used passive solar heating/cooling so effectively in South Africa in the 70s that architects made appointments to come inspect, adding sufficient insulation here is truly impracticable. It would literally be ‘papering over the cracks’….

‘Incremental improvements’ are the name of the game - and wearing better winter clothing!

@oldbilbo

Glad to have helped.

Our house is also of a similar age over 100 years old. Started life with open fire places, then oil tank with some oil fired central heating, then mains gas central heating and only one fireplace left with a log burner. We have insulated parts but not all the house where practical, although i wish we had done more when renovating in hindsight. Although there are limits to make sure the house can breath etc.

We only got a smart meter last year after we switched to OVO, for us it has been fantastic at giving us a much better idea about where we are spending money. We have definitely saved money since the meters were installed by adjusting our usage. Our installation was very smooth and was up and running very quickly. In some ways waiting has been good as we got later meters without some of the early issues.

Obviously it is up to you, but i would recommend asking OVO about what they can do in terms of upgrading your meters. Having a record of  30min readings and the in home display has been really useful for us.

Jeffus, your first para above reflects my experience here. I guess there are plenty of other similar homes needing an ‘integrated’ solution to provision and retention of heat….and cooling when wanted. BTW, we make our own oxygen and ‘fix’ carbon dioxide on site, through our tall trees! 😄

The same trees and roof orientation preclude effective use of solar/PV panels, and air-sourceHP tech is not efficient enough yet. Perhaps a layer of subcutaneous fat is the most cost-effective insulation….

I shall chase up those good OVO people for ideas. Their offices are not far away, and if I can persuade a couple of them to do the ‘field research’ you suggest one morning, I can promise some good coffee.
