Reading out smart meter via optical port

Hi,

Many smart meters can be read out using their optical port using https://www.ebay.de/itm/313884760667 and https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Smart-Meter-Interface/ for example.

My smart meter, an edmi es-10a also has an optical port, but it is not on the tasmota list, nor have I found any blog/forum post discussing this smart meter. Has anyone tried reading out the edmi es-10a using the optical port? Is this possible?

Thanks!

Hi @petz , the last time I looked into this a few years ago, I found that their optical port was restricted in that it was only available for a calibration check.
Not sure if that’s still the case but you need to be careful that you don’t trigger any potential tampering alarms

Hiya!

I must advise you to stop trying to access the meter via the optical port immediately. Any further attempts to use that port WILL almost certainly trigger tamper alarms.

Customers such as ourselves are not allowed to use that port - it’s for engineers only. And in the case of UK based Smart Meters, it’s for factory use only. Any attempt to use it in the field will be blocked other than telling your supplier that a tamper event has been detected - and these ALWAYS get investigated. Please don’t take that risk.
