Gas meter outside - does it have to be moved for a smart meter to be fitted?

Our gas meter is outside the front of the house. The electricity meter is inside, in a cupboard under the stairs, to the side of the house. They're about 8 metres apart.

Does our gas meter have to be moved before we can get a smart meter, and if so, what's the process?

Thanks!

Hi @thiskey,

It's not the physical distance between the two meters which matters, but rather whether the materials of the inbetween walls are sufficiently able to allow the wireless communication signals (2.4GHz).

Even if this transpires to be a problem, OVO can provide you with a (mains powered) relay unit which you can place somewhere between the meters.

The only way you can find out is to book the Smart Meter installation and try it.
But you definitely won't be moving the meters!
