Recently joined OVO and just got a smart meter installed. When booking an appointment I informed the person that phoned me that I was on economy 7. I forgot to chech with the helpful people that installed the meter if it was for economy 7. I hotice that the IHD shows that the cost per day is higher than I used to pay.

Hey @DTE, I've moved your post over here where you should find all the info you need. Feel free to comment furrther questions below.

Nancy
I have had several discussions with OVO over getting a smart meter for my Home. We have Economy 7 heating and no gas. They have stated they don't have Series 2 smart meters for this type of supply. With some research other suppliers are fitting suitable meters in there areas. I feel that we are being fobbed off as before we were able to book an installation and then there were no installers in my area. Seems like a rip off!!! OVO have stated that they are targeting duel supply customers as there are more of them in the market place. Are there any other customers having the same problem!!!

This is really p**sing me off.!!!

Welcome to the forum, @Oldmedic999, I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations.

I've moved your post here as @Tim_OVO's answer at the top of thread may offer some helpful info.

If we can install a first generation smart meter, the routine software update will ensure it has the same functionality as a SMETS2. This may be worth checking out with our team.

You can send us a message on Facebook, Twitter or email the team on hello@ovoenergy.com, or give them a call. You can reach our Customer Care team 9-5 Monday-Friday on 0330 303 5063.

Hope this helps!
I’m confused I’m on economy 7, just been offered smet 2, went to book and it asked if I use storage heaters.
now I have storage heaters but we don’t use them even though there connected.
if I answer yes it says I can’t have a smart meter.
do you know if I can have 1 if I’m not using my heaters or explain why I cannot?

Hi @Viking_man,

If you have storage heaters at your property, even if you don't use them, your meter may have 5 ports in it to accommodate the electricity circuits in your property. Due to this, you'd likely need a 5 port smart meter too. Unfortunately we don't yet have 5 port SMETS2 models, though we do have 5 port SMETS1 meters if you'd like to book one of these instead.

Thanks,
Nancy

We have Economy 10 and tried to book a SMART meter installation before. When the installer arrived he couldn't install due to the dual tariff.

Now I have been told that the meter certificate has expired and needs to be replaced. And of course I am offered a SMART meter. Yet again I’m told it is not possible.

But I have been offered SMETS1. I thought that SMETS1 couldn't handle dual tariff.

Can someone please explain?

Thanks

Adam

Have a look at the ‘best answer' (at the top of this thread).

We can fit a smart meter, the type of smart meter might be different if you have storage heating connected to the off peak register.

So once we know your set up, we can visit and exchange the meter. Then you can choose to have the smart meter in a two rate (Economy 7, we don’t do Economy 10 hours) or single rate.

Can you send over a picture of the meter set up, I know some engineer forum users who might know?

Hello Tim

I already have Economy 10 with you. I have storage heaters and a meeter with two rates,

Last time I booked a SMART meter the engineer rocked up and said he couldn’t do it as he wasn’t told it was dual tariff, but that SMETS1 would have to be changed later to SMETS2.

So, I confess I’m none the wiser.

Will a SMETS1 work with Economy 10? Are you saying I will have to change to Economy 7?

Thanks

Adam

Have a look at this bit of my last reply @adamg - we have SMETS2 meters that can be set up in Economy 7, but not with a storage heating set up. Our SMETS1 ‘Liberty 110’ meters will work with this set up. The reason your appointment was unsuccessful (by the sounds of it) is that the engineer wasn’t told that you had this heating set up, and arrived with another type of smart meter.

You can book this in yourself and specify the heating set up online. Or call in to book:  0330 303 5063

thanks Tim - I did read your reply, where you said that you don't do Economy 10. Did you read my reply where I said I already have that from you?

So, we are back where we started. Do you “do” Economy 10 on a Smart meter?

Userlevel 5

We don’t do Economy 10, @adamg, if you were to have smart meters you would be put onto an Economy 7 tariff.

Aha - the mist is clearing.

To summarise, if I want a smart meter then I would have to have a SMETS1 and downgrade to 7 hours of off peak from 10 hours of off peak. Therefore it’s a no brainer. I’ll stay with a dumb meter, thanks.

My current meter is Economy 10 - whether you “do” Economy 10 or not I get 10 hours of off peak.
