Why do we have to download the app just to sign up for the winter challenge?

Hi @ruthr ,

Long story short, Power Move is now part of OVO Beyond so you need to use the app to access that and the other Beyond stuff. The app will now also help you keep track of your progress on a weekly basis, which wasn’t available previously.

Why do we have to download the app just to sign up for the winter challenge?

The cynic in me suggests:-

Someone in OVO has a target of app users or increase in app take-up so is looking for a way to increase take-up of the app to ensure that target is met.

Just what I thought!  I’m not a keen app user - don’t see a need for most of them - but this is forcing us - so, yes, I have downloaded it!

Hey @ruthr,

We had some customers in for a connection event, and one of the talking points was that some of our offers people miss out on because they aren’t aware of them. Beyond is helping us by pulling everything together in one place so you’ll know what’s on offer and could benefit you. It’s also allowed us to increase the frequency to weekly so that you’ll have more control over knowing your progress towards the challenge target.

@wkeithg To give a little insight the uptake from customers has far exceeded our expectations and this change isn’t related to any kind of targets. I hope this helps!

Could also be a way to increase people taking up the offers in the Beyond app - more users —> more take up of offers = more money for Ovo, plus the partner discount offers - is there money in that for Ovo?

I avoid apps at all costs so this will deter me from taking part completely. I don’t seem to be able to find details of the benefits/rewards/perks in order to make a balanced decision about whether it will be worth it for me. I had previously participated predominantly to help the grid and green usage whilst it benefited me too. If I can’t find out how I might benefit then it really isn’t worth the hassle of downloading the app and learning how to manage a whole new system of frustration. 😒

It’s actually pretty simple tbh - download the app, activate Power Move and close it if you really don’t care about anything else..

Just clicked on it- 2 secs it took.

Only thing I was not sure on was the meter questions which I think were send reading every half hour which I know is Yes but the other one was something about send meter readings for settlements and I said yes to that too!  - Not sure if that was correct but it simply said your meter will be updated in 24 hours!!!

However, with that being said, Power Move is still Power Move. Nothing about the core of how it works has changed. But it is worth noting that most of the stuff you’ll find in the app now are things that folks were asking for a lot.

I’d recommend you at least give it a try - just for one month at least. If you don’t like it, feel free to yell at me for suggesting it in the first place. If it works, let me know it was worth a go.

Yes, have signed up - but its not something I was desperate for!!

Ah thank you!!   This is what I would like to see in the app hahah

The current offers are of no use to me, so I simply use the app for my useage and this power move, it would be good if all “important” updates were added in there I guess!

Those settings are also in the app too! :)

But they need to both be on Half-Hourly for stuff like Power Move to work.

Mmm, ‘forced’?

Whether you choose to to do the Power Move challenges or not is entirely up to you.
Nobody is twisting your arm up your back if you don’t want to take part..

I did say ' in a way'. But if I do 'choose' to join the Power Move like last year, then I am in effect 'forced' to use the app.

If you really feel that strongly, just use the app PURELY to enable Power Move and then just uninstall it if you truly don’t care about the other stuff in there. It’d only take like… 30 seconds once every three months or so! But having this stuff be in the app is actually what tons of OVO customers wanted, thus why it’s now in the app.

Likewise, you’ll probably want to keep it once you realise what else it can do...

If you really feel that strongly resistant that you cannot possibly use the app, then the answer’s simple - just don’t use it. You’d be shooting yourself in the foot, but ultimately it’s your decision. Use it and get the cool stuff, or don’t use it and skip the cool stuff. It’s up to you.

OVO isn’t forcing you to do anything you don’t want to do. But if you choose not to play the game, then you have to accept you cannot get the prizes on offer. It’s just like how refusing Smart Meters means you have to accept you cannot have certain products - it’s your decision but in such cases you are intentionally locking yourself out of the best deals on the market.

I also try to keep to as few apps as possible but I've finally succumbed and downloaded the OVO energy app in order to join Power Move. Being disabled and pretty much housebound I don't need the app for much else although the weekly usage updates will be useful. I'm hoping to continue to reap the full reward each month  -  as I have done since first joining.

I must say I was agreeably surprised to see the £10 for September on the October bill to date page. I don't know how I managed to make the target for September! My usage for the second half of the month was only below the target twice but I think that including weekends as off-peak is probably what helped.

The 4-7pm timeline suits me better as I batch cook and freeze portions so that I don't have to cook every day. So easy to microwave for a couple of minutes after 7pm to have my meal at my normal time around 7:30pm. I found the 6-9pm timeline very difficult.

The PM reward often shows up on your live billing page (app or browser) before you get the email about it.

Another agreeable change is that the maximum reward has gone up again and is now £12.

OK, it's not the £15 that it was last year, but better than £10.

Tricia - yes I agree - 4-7 is a much better time to work with.  I never bothered with the 6-9.
