Do others feel that there isn’t a huge incentive to OVO’s power move scheme? Octpus seems to provide a greater incentive with their tarriffs. What do others feel?

Strokes for folks. We manage it every month with no effort at all. Met the requirement every month, this month we used 3.54% during peak time

The incentive changes throughout the year. It has a higher value and is earlier in the afternoon during the winter months. At least that was what it was last year. It had got tougher to meet the requirements but still possible with a bit of planning and care. Just try your best without depriving yourself of any essential power (keeping warm, essential equipment or a timely meal) and see how it goes. I've always managed to do quite well but will probably have to up my game this winter. Ultimately it's up to individuals to decide who the best energy supplier is based on a number of factors but I would give it a go first.

There is no doubt the OVO Power Move has been a tougher challenge over the summer months. I myself have not made it to Teir 3 but still have been able o make some saving. As one post has implied they do it every month so it is possible. However, there is no shame in not achieving the target just keep looking at your energy usage and shift as much as you can. You will see results and rewards at some point.

We haven’t managed the power move at all. We have solar panels and use most of our daytime electricity while the solar panels are generating the electricity. We also have other people living in the house who we can’t control their energy usage so have found it very difficult. The power move scheme doesn’t allow for solar panels.

I have given up on power move opted out of it. never made my targets at all. the only time was the hourly ones we use to do on evenings. but they don’t do those anymore. It was difficult when they changed the times over from summer. Sometimes they would say you nearly there. I had other things to worry about.

I have had a few pennies from it, every little helps!  I don't go out of my way as I'm already a low user, so it's not really aimed at me.

I preferred the hour ones they did.

As a low user I don't benefit at all. I have saved a few pennies on occasions, but overall it's a waste of time .

In August Ovo awarded me £2 for using 7.7% of my electricity during peak hours, but by my calculations my score is 7.42% (6.68% if the Bank Holiday on 26th August is excluded).

In July I failed to reach the target according to Ovo, with a peak time use figure of 8.93%. My calculated peak time consumption was 8.22% for that month.

The loss of £2 for July and £3 in August isn’t going to make a big dent in my bank balance, but the discrepancies always seem to be in Ovo’s favour, putting a dent in my trust in their good faith.

The hour based ones were related to Power Move Plus, which will likely see a return this Winter.

I was away on vacation for 16 days out of 31 in august and still i couldn’t meet the target. I got no credit for August. During the days I was not here,  1.9kwH was being consumed for the fridge , clock etc. Does anyone know how OVO calculates the percentage usage you are meant be under.  The other 13 days the TV was on for approx, 2½ hours during the peak hours .  No appliances were switched on. I don’t get it.

@powersaver the answer is quite simple. You were away for over 50% of the month.

You need to MOVE usage to Off-Peak, not SHUTDOWN everything all month.

Sorry, but you don’t qualify for credits on this occasion because you didn’t actively take part.

Does anyone know how OVO calculates the percentage usage you are meant be under.

The calculation itself is a simple percentage.

For the whole months usage:
Total kWh used during 'peak hours' / Total kWh used overall * 100 = Power Move percentage.

Here’s a couple of examples:

Say you used the Ofgen ‘typical’ 225 kWh/month overall; and  you used 19.5 kWh of that during the Power Move hours.

19.5 / 225 * 100 = 8.67%
That’s above the 8.5% target so you have missed the current Power Mover Summer targets.

However say you still used the same Ofgen ‘typical’ 225 kWh/month overall; but only used 14.5 kWh of it during the Power Move hours.

14.5 / 225 * 100 = 6.44%
That’s below the 6.5% target so you have hit the current Power Mover Summer target for £10 reward.

You have done that simply by MOVING 5 kWh of usage a month out of the PM hours to different times.
You haven’t used any less electricity overall, you’ve just used it at different times.
(eg. By changing what time you do your cooking on an electric stove).

Sorry but I disagree, I have solar and have hit every power move since I joined in April. I was 3.16% this month.

Your solar set up would make a difference but this also depends on if you have battery storage etc. Then it is import charge after midnight and so on.

I have looked at Octopus but when I take everything into account including there 0.14 pence export for solar compared with Ovo at 0.04 as I am hitting the challenge there is no insentive to move.  It actually all works out the same. Last we looked Octopus gave points towards offers all of which we wouldn't use.
