Hello. We're new to OVO and are on the Simpler Energy Variable Tariff, currently at £84 per month. We've been looking at the fixed rate options (we are told that it's much better to be on a fixed tariff) and are considering changing to the 2 Year Fixed at £99 per month, which is 33% green, and assume we can take the current offer of adding £2.50 a month to become greener yet.
We're paying monthly.

Any advice would be really welcome please!
Thanks!

Great question, @buzzhunter - I've tweaked the title to maker this the go-to topic on the Green Energy add-on!

Yes you can absolutely add the Green Energy add on to a two year fixed tariff, or any Pay monthly plan for that matter. Select this via your My OVO page. We used to be Ovo customers and are considering coming back. We're wondering which tariff to go for and are tempted by the Greener Energy tariff but are unimpressed by the fact that the tree planting that's mentioned on the Quote and Switch page finished in March 2017 and, what's more, there's nothing in the Terms and Conditions that says that Ovo commit to the planting.

Any comments or views please?

@Sebh we certainly do still plant trees. Just make sure you've selected the Green Energy add on when you sign up: https://www.ovoenergy.com/green-energy-add-on?utm_medium=IHsocial&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=retention_greenaddon&gclid=CIni9eKCntcCFQL6GwodZkUAiA&gclsrc=ds

These green energy add-ons are not what they seem. Ovo is a supplier, not a generator. The only benefit to the individual of paying extra for a 'green' tariff is to reduce their personal 'carbon footprint', while having absolutely no effect on the total amount of carbon dioxide produced globally. Ovo may buy more green electricity from generators, but there is then less available for other suppliers to purchase, so customers on their non-green tariffs will receive a smaller proportion of green electricity.

As far as planting trees is concerned, it is more tax-efficient to do this through a charity such as the Woodland Trust, so your income tax can be reclaimed through Gift Aid.
