Hey @Zamaria,

The IHD shouldn't be using battery life that quickly. We do recommend plugging it into the mains, this will be more cost effective for you, more info here.

If you have any issues with it whilst it is plugged into the mains please contact our https:// m.me/ovoenergy team.

Cheers!

Erm @Zamaria - my Chameleon lasts not much more than this too. I understand the technical bits inside it, and that seems about right considering that it's permanently driving a 100x50mm colour screen.

I tend to leave mine plugged in (charging) on a shelf and only take it down when I want to berate it for still not showing me anything about my gas usage! 😂
The battery is so the ihd can be mobile, for short periods of time say when maybe checking electric appliance costs.
If in permanent use the ihd should be plugged in constantly, it cost 80p a year to run it if left in. Its just 3 Watts.

Hi had my smart meter installed yesterday and pretty certain the engineer told me the IHD is powered by renewable battery . However my IHD seems to only work when plugged in and info from this forum seems to suggest my engineer was incorrect?!

Thanks for any advice on this

Check out my best answer, @aidank, you can get rechargeable batteries, but I don’t know of a renewable battery.

Thanks!

So what’s the state of the battery symbol on your IHD @aidank ?

It should look like the photo above when being charged from the mains. It extinguishes when you unplug the mains and move elsewhere in the house.

The instructions say that the symbol flashes if the battery is low, but I’ve not yet observed that.

My mistake, I meant to say rechargeable! So does my IHD have them ?

Yes, the Chameleon has an internal rechargeable battery. It’s got a very low charge-rate (to avoid heat build-up), so you need to leave it 3 hours to reach capacity.
