The HSE should be fining Cadent for either excavating without buried services records or, in the absence of those, they should only be excavating with manual tools to avoid the possibility if severing a live cable or other service. They were fortunate in only severing an LV cable instead of an HV cable which could have very easily caused injuries or deaths. You could report the issue to the HSE but I'm assuming that the DNO would have done that already. Peter

Morning @ACE.52 and a warm welcome to the OVO Forum. I can see you’ve had some helpful responses already about this. It really is hard to tell exactly what to do in this situation, as we can only speculate as to price cap changes going forward. You can find out more about price cap changes in this article: My advice is to make sure you’re giving your annual usage figures for gas and electricity when you’re getting quotes from other suppliers. If you don’t provide these, the quote may not be accurate, and the initial Direct Debit amount may be wrong. You can find your annual usage figures by logging into your online account, and clicking ‘Plan’ then ‘Plan details’. This’ll take you to a page entitled ‘Your Plan’, and if you scroll down, you’ll see your annual usage figures labelled like this: Let us know how you get on, and what you decide to do. We’d of course like to keep you as a customer and hopefully, when you do decide to renew, our rates will be favourable in comparison to the rest of the market.

Morning @Jeffus, always good to hear from you, but the circumstances this time sound so frustrating . Cadent do have a complaints process which is detailed in this pdf guide. You can call their Customer Care Complaints team (8am-8pm, Mon-Fri) on 0800 389 8000, or email them at wecare@cadentgas.com. You can find out more on their website here. I’ve taken this from their complaints procedure: If our Customer Service team or our local regional management are not able to reach a resolution with you, then you can escalate your complaint for review. We will investigate your complaint and the actions taken up to that point as part of the review. A response will be sent to you within 5 working days, or 10 working days where a site visit or third‐party enquiry is required. You can escalate your complaint by emailing with your complaint reference number customerescalations@cadentgas.com. If necessary, you can also speak to the Ombudsman eventually, in the same way that you could with a complaint about your energy supplier. Hopefully your complaint with Cadent won’t get to that point, but just so you know, the option is there. Let us know how you get on - it’ll be interesting to hear how they resolve this for you.

Sorry, yes, OFGEM.	It might not seem ‘greedy’ to those who can comfortably afford it, but even a small rise in the standing charges and unit rates has a big effect on the monthly bills for those on low income, or unemployed for whatever reasons.	And, like I mentioned, Energy Companies make more money the more customers they supply and have signed up to them. Cheaper rates makes them more attractive and means more people will switch.	Energy companies only obligation as regards the Ofgem “Price cap” is that they are told, for each of the regions, the MAXIMUM that they can charge for unit rates for each fuel and the MAXIMUM that they can charge for standing charges for each fuel. Those of us who have been OVO customers for some time may remember, some years back, when OVO did not raise their standing charges for a considerable length of time (I think it was, at least, 6 months). I do have the data on one of my machines, but could not put my mouse on it immediately. However, the costs of keeping us all supplied do go up - by this I mean the running costs of companies. Increasing wages (and there is nothing wrong with doing this), increased National Insurance costs for employers (I can wax lyrical about this for hours), increased costs of basic things like meters and In Home Devices and the cost of getting them to where they need to be, network charges that allow energy companies to distribute the energy they buy, the cost of the government mandated Warm Home Discount, etc. all need to be paid for. Companies have to strike a balance between charges and viability. When companies fail, the knock on effects are felt by us all.

Meanwhile, many of the available fixes are significantly more expensive than the forthcoming price cap. I’m in the same situation; at the moment, with my fix from early last year about to expire, I’m thinking of just rolling on to the Standard Variable Tariff at least for a few months, then see what happens later in the year.

By all means complain bitterly to them - you’ll have fun getting them to compensate you for losses and disruption especially in the current climate.Best of luck, old friend!

I don't think Cadant have been careful all week with their digging.... Cadent are in the process of replacing all the mains gas pipes in our area so have been digging in the area for weeks UK Power Networks were quickly on the scene after we told them. Cadent hadn't even told UK Power when we phoned... But UK Power Networks couldn't start work until Cadent made the area safe. No eta to get fixed yet. Just wondering is it worth putting in a complaint to Cadant? I would rather not claim on house insurance for spoiled food. UK Power have been excellent keeping us informed, Cadent useless.

I could be wrong - we don’t have access to your account on the Forum. I’d recommend having a read of this page. It contains a lot of info as to who else you can reach out to, including Step Change, who are a debt relief charity who give free advice, and also Citizens Advice, who may be able to tell you whether you’d qualify for any sort of grant to help with your situation. If Collections won’t budge on the payment plan, I’d recommend those two agencies as a next step. I hope you can get some further help with this, and manage to get the balance lowered eventually,

Hey @Philip Jones, Welcome to the community @woodstok2000 has provided some really helpful advice. It's correct that you should connect to Charge Anytime through a compatible charger rather than directly through the vehicle. This setup allows Ovo Charge to schedule charging from the grid. During the intervals when charging is paused, any excess solar energy generated can be directed to the vehicle instead. To maximise use from solar we'd recommend setting a Ready By time further in the future, eg 9am tomorrow, so that charging will be paused for longer where excess solar may be used.

In addition Cornwall Insight are in the game of forecasting future CAPs here: https://www.cornwall-insight.com/press-releases/cornwall-insight-release-final-july-price-cap-forecast-2/ Ofgem look a prices on the Futures market to determine what the level of the CAP should be to give the suppliers a readonable working margin. Suppliers can then play around with a combination of the Unit Rates and the Standing Charge to make themselves look attractive to different sections of the community. But, in total, their prices must not exceed the CAP for the user who is defined as average. Being careful not to use the term average user which might draw the wrath of @Firedog who would rightfully tick me off for saying no customer is average. It's too hot for being ticked off. Suppliers can offer prices below the CAP. Bulb did that and went bust because they didn't buy enough contracts for their customers on the Futures market so when the prices went up in the post Covid energy crisis they couldn't afford to buy the energy. Tomato did that for EV users more recently and went bust possibly because they didn't ask enough to run an effective administration process and Ofgem shut them down when they failed their customers. You're damned (by comment) if you run at the CAP or dammed (by collapse) if you undercut it by too much. Peter

Sorry, yes, OFGEM.It might not seem ‘greedy’ to those who can comfortably afford it, but even a small rise in the standing charges and unit rates has a big effect on the monthly bills for those on low income, or unemployed for whatever reasons. And, like I mentioned, Energy Companies make more money the more customers they supply and have signed up to them. Cheaper rates makes them more attractive and means more people will switch.

… the Price Cap (As set by OFCOM). OFCOM do communications - TV, radio, telephone and broadband, for example. The energy market regulator is Ofgem: GEM is ‘gas and electricity markets’. … do energy companies HAVE to increase their unit prices and standing charges, or are they just doing it to make the most money from customers? … it just seems like pure greed for every energy supplier to raise their prices, just because they can! Ofgem don’t just set the price-cap, they determine pretty much just how much ‘profit’ the energy suppliers can make from the majority of their customers - those on Standard Variable Tariffs, the ones governed by the price cap. Before any interest or taxes have been paid, a supplier is allowed £43 per customer per year over and above costs. That doesn’t strike me as greedy.

It could be that the erosion of the E7 and E10 rate differentials (would Ofgem stop them converging?) would get customers to move to another ToU. Ofgem only get involved in regulating E7, not any of the other register-based ToU offerings like E10. This is presumably because the system has been around for a long time and there are still many customers relying on it. The furthest Ofgem go is to insist that E7 should be less expensive than the SVT for a customer who consumes at least 42% of the total during offpeak hours. This extract is from Ofgem’s latest revision of the Typical Domestic Consumption Values used to illustrate variations in the price cap:Table 2: E7 Consumption split Consumption split (GB) Peak (day time usage) 58% Off-peak (night time usage) 42% For the past several years, OVO - and I suspect some other suppliers - have been much more generous than Ofgem mandate; in my own region, the current consumption split is 25%. It’s not just the arithmetic difference that counts, but the geometric one too.

Quick question regarding the Price Cap (As set by OFCOM).OVO state that the price rises are ‘Industry Wide’, which is fair enough, but, my question is, when OFCOM set the price caps, do energy companies HAVE to increase their unit prices and standing charges, or are they just doing it to make the most money from customers?I mean, okay, OFCOM have allowed energy companies to raise their prices in July, but do they all HAVE to.For instance, could OVO KEEP their current prices as they are now, to reward existing customers and attract new ones by having the cheapest fuel prices? If so, it just seems like pure greed for every energy supplier to raise their prices, just because they can!

I am new to the Forum.	I have had solar PVs for a number of years. I have an EV but have just got one with a bigger onboard battery and have got this to work with my solar panels and a linked battery. This battery charges from the solar during the day and at night on the cheaper tarrif. When I connect up the new car on a sunny day - today 24 June is hot as well - my charges for this come up on my OVO Charge app on my phone. They have always been just below 14p per KWh as stated for a pay-as-you-go user. This is since I got the car early in May. Most of my charging has been in the evening, but with the greater sunshine hours, I have tried during the day. After charging the cost is still just under 14p per KWh, but solar power is being used and also my linked batteries are being drained as well.	So although I’m getter a good feed-in tariff for the solar panels, I’m also charging the car and being charged by OVO Charge for this, when most of the power is coming from the solar panels and my own batteries.	Is there something wrong with my set up? My car charger is a Zappi 2.1 . My car is a VW ID3 with a 79KW battery.	I am not used to blogs having retired 7 years ago.	Is your Ovo Charge account linked to your car, or to your charger?

I am new to the Forum.I have had solar PVs for a number of years. After charging the cost is still just under 14p per KWh, but solar power is being used and also my linked batteries are being drained as well.So although I’m getter a good feed-in tariff for the solar panels, I’m also charging the car and being charged by OVO Charge for this, when most of the power is coming from the solar panels and my own batteries. Is there something wrong with my set up? My car charger is a Zappi 2.1 . My car is a VW ID3 with a 79KW battery.I am not used to blogs having retired 7 years ago.

@Lukepeniket_OVO This is interesting - thank-you for taking the time to investigate. If it is possible to attach a new meter board to the existing backboard and thereby extend the available area to attach a new meter then this might work and seems like an option with minimal complications. As a result of my recent enquiries, I actually already have an engineer visit booked for 2nd July (8-12am), not to carry out any work, only to investigate a way forward. I’m happy for this to be re-arranged as a visit to actually do work if that is what works best. If it is possible for you to handhold with the other teams to guide on the possible solution then it’d be much appreciated.I can provide account details etc. as required. Please let me know the best way to proceed.Thanks.

Solution: simply changed end time from 8am to 11 pm, plugged car in at 8pm Smart Charge started immediately hey presto problem solved.Do you mean set the “Ready By” time to 11pm? I’m having the same problem and trying to diagnose it. If I were to plug the car in at 9pm would this not finish the charging at 11pm i.e. the “ready by” time?I currently have the ready by time set at 7am and no smart charging kicks in at all, however if I manually “boost” the charge from the Cord Charger app itself, OVO reports it’s charging at the smart tariff. So it does sound like the car is timing out.Would be nice to get this to do automatcally.RegardsJeff

Hey @Shaiakh The new app doesn’t send receipts via email or text, but you can find all of your top up history within the app if you click into whichever fuel type you’d like to check the receipt for. The following similar topic will be helpful here: Do you know what meter model you have? I know some meter types don’t always have a compatible IHD available, so it could just be unfortunately that it’s an older meter with a diminished supply of IHDs. If you’re facing any other issues with the app, do let us know what those are so we can check if we can help with anything further. Can you share with me a screenshot or video of where the 'top-up history' is please. I can't seem to find it. Surely, it would be a good idea to have it on the home page? Edit: To check my top-up history, I have to tap on the green electric bolt icon.....that is so silly. There is no idication on the screen to point you to 'payment history' That is horrible UX/UI, please implement a change and please urge the developers to go read up on Nielsen Norman and the principles of UX.

Very interesting, thank you! It’s a shame public charging is still so expensive, even in Spain, but that’s still a very reasonable cost for such a trip. A similar trip around France in our ID7 last year cost us about £220 (averaging 4.1 m/kWh) although my records were no where near as detailed as yours. We had a similar experience with the chargers - overwhelmingly positive on the whole, with a few minor niggles here and there. My old diesel Kia got about 50mpg and would have costs us north of £260 for the same trip (probably a bit more now fuel prices have jumped). The £250 spent on public charging was an estimate. Having now totaled up all the bills, the cost was actually £201.47.	That’s even better!

It said on the website that i was out of plan but apparently i was on a plan until 2027, after speaking to an agent. i still dont agree with the exit fee of 90 pounds for gas that is like a years worth of gas for me.And i know the join has not been finalised yet but it will be before 2027 it said nothing in my contract about being part of eon.( I will not be part of eon at all and will make sure of that )When i moved in to my property they tried billing me for a time period that was before i had the keys and tenancy. Instead of chasing up with the correct people. The previous tenants or the housing association. They sent me several threatening letters, the customer service from them was disgusting when i tried talking to them and eon was on watchdog years ago for this very reason. They threatened to send out the bailiffs over Christmas for a debt that was not mine, was rude unhelpful aggressive. This was a particular hard time in my life as well, as i had just lost my brother to suicide. This is the reason i am now leaving ovo, because i want no part in eon.

Talking of nit-picking, I said I had started my shower 15 seconds too late. That got me thinking:Meter time is set in the communications hub on installation. It is maintained by monitoring the supply frequency supported by a battery-operated quartz clock during power outages. It can drift over time - my own is currently 41 seconds ahead of MSF time. The alarm I set to send me dashing to the bathroom was provided by my Samsung phone. I checked just now, and confirmed that it takes its time from the network. The phone clock is 3 seconds adrift from MSF.	My 15 seconds of tardiness wasn’t my fault at all, but the meter’s: it switched from 10:59 to 11:00 41 seconds early. SMETS2 says: 5.5.1 Clock The Clock forming part of ESME shall be capable of operating so as to be accurate to within 10 seconds of the UTC date and time under normal operating conditions. I think I’m justified in asking OVO to put my meter clock right, assuming that my MSF radio-controlled kitchen clock is right. Vodafone being 3 seconds out is within limits acceptable to me, but the meter’s 41 seconds’ discrepancy is beyond the pale.@Ben_OVO et al. with a history of customer support, were you ever asked to set a meter (point) clock? Were you able to do it yourself, or would you have to ask the Smart team or someone to do it? It looks like DCC Service Request 6.11 should do the trick.

Missed part 1? Follow the link below: Having planned the entire route using ABRP (plus a few manual tweaks) I used Google Maps to familiarise myself with the actual location of each of the stops, and placed the little man on the map so that I had a mental image of the final steps. This helped a lot as we approached each stop. I also created a “co-pilot” information sheet so that my wife could identify certain landmarks as we came closer to the destination. I highly recommend getting an Emovis Tag, also known as Bip-and-Drive. You need the VIA-T tag for Spain. This allows you to pass through the motorway toll gates without having to faff around with credit cards, which can be particularly tricky since our UK cars having the steering wheel on the other side, and the payment machine is on the passenger side. It’s quite amusing when you approach the toll gates, and some speedy Gonzales passes you in an attempt to get through the gates first, only to find that your Bip-and-Drive device automatically raises the barrier as you approach, and you’re away first while Señor Gonzales is still stuck at the gate. We travelled 1,505 miles in the car from home and back again, including a day trip to Oasys Mini Hollywood, which is well worth a visit and good value for money. This is where spaghetti westerns such as “A Fist Full of Dollars”, “For a Few Dollars More”, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” were filmed, to name a few. Talking of “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” ... here’s a detailed account of our experiences using public charging during our trip, starting in Portsmouth: Public Charging We drove 94 miles from North West Oxfordshire to the All Saints Car Park in Church Street, Portsmouth. There were 3x 50kW Mer chargers in the car park, and you don’t have to pay for parking if your car is on charge. This was a good start to the journey as it was as simple to use the Mer chargers as it is to use the Tesla Superchargers that are open-to-all. While the car was charging we had a 5 minute or so walk to the local shopping area for a coffee. We arrived with a charge level of 67%, and left with 100%. There was one other car charging when we arrived. Charge time was approximately 1 hour. I fully charged the car so that we could make good time after leaving Bilbao. One thing to note is that all the Mer chargers are being migrated to the Be.EV network, which I hope will continue to be easy to use. Our first stop in Spain was at Avenida Pedernales at Villagonzalo for a coffee break where we charged from 46% to 81%. There were 6x 180kW Iberdrola / BP Pulse chargers, and 2x 350kW Porsche chargers. No-one was using any of the chargers. As my maximum charge rate is 80kW, I ignored the Porsche chargers which were more expensive. This is where we encountered our first problem. The sun was so bright, and the charger screen was so dim that it was basically impossible to read the instructions. I went into the restaurant and asked one of the staff for help. This must be a common problem there as he seemed to know where to press on the touchscreen in the correct place to get things working. Unfortunately I had to ask for help a second time as we couldn’t see how to stop the charge. The next stop was at Rest. El Lagar de Milagros for lunch where there were 3x Wenea chargers. Very simple to use, and there was no-one at the chargers. No problems here. Arrived with 58% and left with 95%. Our second problem was at Cred. Venturada MD A1 PK 49 28729. This is a Repsol garage where my Shell Recharge RFID card didn’t work, or my credit card. There was another EV charging there, and the owner said to use the Waylet app, which I’d never heard of. After downloading the app, things progressed smoothly and we charged from 70% to 81%. This was just a short stop for a toilet break. As usual, the Tesla chargers at Saelices were a breeze using the app. It knows your location, so no searching required. Select the stall number and plug in. If only all chargers were that simple use. In fact, we could have done the whole trip using only Tesla Superchargers, but where’s the fun in that? I purposely selected stops with chargers from different companies to gain more experience with public charging. This was our tea break stop. We arrived with 40% and left with 73%. There were 12x V4 Superchargers here, and some from Ionity. One EV was charging when we arrived. The next stop was at the Moya Hotel in Honrubia where we stayed the night. There were 8x 240kW Place to Plug chargers onsite, and none were in use. Very easy to use via the app. Arrived with 56% and left the next morning with 100%. I had to move the car away from the chargers when finished, otherwise it costs €60.00 per hour if you don’t move it within 10 minutes. The next morning we were on the second leg of the journey down south. Again, no problems at the Tesla chargers (4x V4) at Hellin. Charged from 61% to 84% while we had a coffee break. One EV was charging when we arrived. At Diseminado Labor Bajo 30850 there were 10x Plenitude on the Road chargers. I was keen to try these chargers, as I’d never heard of them before, and I already had the app installed and set up. None of the chargers were occupied, and we soon found out why. At first it looks like these were going to work like the Teslas, but I was very wrong. The app asked which charger we were going to use, but none of them had any identification. I tried guessing the charger number, and the one to the left clicked. After moving to that charger and plugging in, nothing happened. Eventually, after wasting around 30 minutes, we gave up and headed for some Tesla chargers at Totana, Yet again, simple to use. The only issue was that the two restaurants nearby were closed as it was a Sunday, and we had to resort to one of the worst ham and cheese plastic sandwiches we’ve ever eaten from the nearby garage. At least we managed to charge from 52% to 80%.	I was so annoyed with the Plenitude on the Road chargers that I forgot to take a photo. Our next stop was at our hotel where we stayed for 11 nights. While staying at our hotel we took a day trip to Oasys Mini Hollywood. Before heading off we charged at the nearby Total Energies chargers located behind the local supermarket. There were 4x 50kW chargers where we charged from 48% to 81%. Very simple to use via the Charge Europe app, and none were in use when we arrived. At the end of our 11-night stay we charged the day before at the Total Energies site. We arrived with 30%, and after about 55 minutes of exploring the Chinese shop (with everything you could possible think of in the store) and a quick trip around the supermarket followed by a coffee, the Kia app suddenly announced that charging was complete, having only reached 83%! What appears to have happened is that the charger I was plugged in to had failed. I couldn’t get it to restart, so moved to the charger next door, and charging continued to 100%. No-one else used the chargers in the whole time we were there. Our first stop on the way back to Bilbao was at Parque Commercial y Los Olivos Cieza. We stopped there for a coffee break. There were several Iberdrola chargers there (I forget how many). The first charger I tried would not accept my credit card. Given the problem we had with the previous Iberdrola chargers I wasn’t very impressed at this stage. I tried the charger next door, and that worked. But ... when it came to stop the charge, it wouldn’t recognise my credit card that I’d used to initiate the charge. At this point the charge level had reached 92%, and the only way to stop it was to set the maximum DC charge level to 90% in the Kia infotainment system. This caused the charging to halt. I did try stopping the charge directly in the Kia app, but that failed to do anything. At least we had two very delicious coffees and a croissant de chocolate blanco at a cafe in the main square. Our second stop on the way back to Bilbao was at Exit La Gineta near Albacete for lunch. 8x V4 Tesla chargers with two in use. Arrived with 54% and left with 82%. So far, just loving these Tesla chargers. Why can’t they all work like that? We stopped again at Saelices for a tea break and used the excellent Tesla V4 chargers there. Three chargers out of 12 were in use when we arrived with 47%, and left with 81%. The Sercotel AB Arganda hotel was our next stop for a 1-night stay. Arrived with 62%. No charging was required during this stop. The next morning we stopped for a coffee break at Cred Venturada (as in step 4). This time, however, we had the Waylet app already loaded and knew how to use these chargers. No chargers were in use. Arrived with 41% and left with 82%. Lunch was next at the Hotel Landa in Burgos. This was a very posh hotel with 8x Tesla V3 chargers. Usually the V3 superchargers have very short charging cables which are designed for Tesla EVs with their charging ports on the nearside (UK). Some other EVs with their charging port of the other side have to use two parking spaces for the cable to reach. The Kia Niro EV has its charging port at the front in the centre, but even so you have to park at a slight angle and get really close to the charger. However, at this particular site the charging leads were much longer than usual. Not only that, but there were two charging leads. One CCS, and the other Tesla proprietary. I’ve never seen that combination before. The amazing thing with these chargers was that the Kia achieved a charge speed of 84kW, when its published maximum is supposed to 80kW! We arrived with 29% and left with 100%. Eventually we reached our final hotel for a 1-night stay. This was the Ibis hotel at Barakaldo, only a short drive away from the ferry port. I was also surprised to discover 4x PowerDot chargers in the car park behind the hotel. We arrived with 59% and charged to 82%. Another one to add to the simple-to-use list. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo. Also, a short walk from the Ibis was a huge shopping mall where we had a excellent meal at a Texas barbeque restaurant. The next morning we had a very good breakfast in the Ibis (included in the booking) and headed off to Bilbao ferry port where we arrived with 80% charge. After 1-night on the ferry we arrived in Portsmouth. Leaving the ship and passing through Customs was relatively easy with minimal delay. We arrived home with 44% charge remaining, and not once did we suffer from range anxiety. Conclusion The Kia Niro was faultless throughout the whole trip. There were long sections of the motorway (autopista) where the speed limit was 120 km/h (75 mph) and we made good use of the adaptive cruise control. On arrival home I used my OBD2 reader with the Car Scanner app to see exactly how many kWh had been added using public chargers. The answer was 369 kWh. It was then easy to calculate the Kia Niro’s efficiency during the trip through Spain as 3.57 m/kWh, which was pretty good considering that a lot of the journey was at a constant 75 mph. Overall we spent approximately £201.47 on public charging after our calculations.

(I should have RTFM. The maximum reward is for 1.35 kWh per hour, not the 1kWh it was last year.) Ha but; that isn’t what it currently says on the app at all, although it is what it says in your link. Thanks for checking! I had a look at the T&Cs both in the app and online. The app version is dated 25 April 2026, while the one on the web is dated 13 January 2026. Could it be that the web terms apply to an offer that was never made, but the app terms are for the offer currently available and underway? Sign-up to the web offer seems to have expired on 13 April and the period covered weeks starting 2 March - 20 April. I don’t remember ever having seen it ...Back to square one - the reward is for 1.0 kWh/hour for the current offer until someone tells us it isn’t. I’ll check the calculations for my May reward to see how I earned my 33p.

You can absolutely have two or more accounts under the same email address, however the accounts have to be manually linked under the same customer identity. This isn’t done automatically due to security. All you need to do is contact our Support Team, provide the two account details, and request that the second account be linked to the one that holds your email address. This is a really quick job that can be done over a quick phone call / email / webchat and, once completed, you’ll be able to select between the two accounts, like in the screenshot Firedog has added above.
Hey @Ricky Saunders Nukecad has left some helpful questions on the situation, if you could answer those it’d be helpful to add some more context to this. If you were not in the renewal period for a fixed contract, and had more than 53 days to go before your contract ended, then switching to a new supplier will incur exit fees. You can find more on exit fees here. I would also like to note that OVO haven’t been taken over by EON at this moment, this is why you’ve not received any notice of this. It’s still subject to regulatory approval processes. You can find out more on that in the topic below:

(With the difference between 0.09 and 0.082 being simply due to rounding to the nearest penny).

Ha but; that isn’t what it currently says on the app at all, although it is what it says in your link.Perhaps @Abby_OVO or another of the moderators could speak with the team and get us some clarification on just what the limit is? BTW It appears from my bill credit that I used 1.082 kWh worth for May which was only the one week.I haven’t really been keeping an eye on what I did use during the hours, but I assume that credit is mainly for cooking the meat on the Sunday.Which is how I’ve been using the Sunday hours, and more or less forgetting the midweek ones as there isn’t anything much that I could switch to them. But does that 1.082 kWh represent a max 1 kWh for Sunday and the 0.082 is for the midweek hour?

… and the results of this morning’s exercise are in: epic fail!10:00-11:00 - 0.887 kWh > 0.887 kWh free = 0.887 x 19.88 p/kWh = 17p reward11:00-12:00 - 1.271 kWh > 1.271 kWh free = 1.271 x 19.88 p/kWh = 25p reward.(I should have RTFM. The maximum reward is for 1.35 kWh per hour, not the 1kWh it was last year.)I got the total quantity right: 0.887 + 1.271 = 2.158 kWh, which is just ~2 kWh for the shower and 0.158 kWh for the background usage. But I clearly started about 15 seconds too late - must do better, and use an extra 0.7 kWh over the two hours to get the full whack of 2.35 x 19.88 p = 47p. That means either an extra 4.7 minutes in the shower, or boiling water for 10 pots of tea. I wonder if the reward would cover the cost of the extra water - a calculation for another day. Not to mention the trauma of treatment for cutis anserina aquatica or bladder hypertrophy.

We have a slimline dishwasher that. since there are just two of us, we do not need to use every day. In its first hour, it uses just over 1kWh. So, we have tried to organise ourselves so that we run the it in the free hours. We have been choosing one hour during the week and one on Sunday. So far, we have managed to organise ourselves to use the dishwasher in the free hour slots, apart from the week when the slots were Sunday (from one week) and Monday (from the next week). We decided to roast a joint to take advantage of the Sunday slot (gammon, if anyone is interested).
Howdy @NessaS123 ,Gonna have to be a Rip N’ Replace job I’m afraid - these units are no longer reset when they hit Free Vend Mode because they become a pain when it happens again and causes yet another engineer visit. It’s a safety feature to prevent faults from nuking the supply, so you have “unlimited” juice until it’s fixed - however it’ll also rack up a debt that needs to be repaid later so please don’t use too much just because you can.Happens to the Traditional PAYG Meters a lot more than I’d like to admit… Another reason to get rid of those old dinosaurs...The scheduled outage today is unrelated - that’s for Smart Meters.

@Peter E Thanks for your in depth response.I don't disagree with anything you say, but I'm permitted to leave without penalty in the last 49 days, and I've exercised that right. I feel that until I've left the contract entirely, the end date should remain as the original date. I'll probably phone customer services tomorrow to see what they have to say, but for a number of reasons I'll be glad to leave OVO. They let me down by having a weak contract with Ohme, which meant that my Ohme EV charger was no longer compatible with Charge Anytime. Then they doubled the cost of charging from 7p to 14p.

Hi @Phil Smith I'm sorry that you find yourself in this situation but I will hazard a guess with the following response. When you are in a contract, right up to the last day, OVO will buy energy on the futures market (months in advance) to cover the likely amount of energy you would use. It's an Ofgem requirement to prevent the situation where Bulb went out of business because they hadn't bought enough energy in advance. When you cancelled your contract this set an end date of 3rd July beyond which OVO was not buying energy for your use. If you cancel the move OVO can't retrospectively buy the energy you would likely use until the 30th July at the price they could have got it for at the time (because the price goes up the closer you get to the usage date) which is why your end date is still the 3rd July. This is why there are exit fees on FP contracts because the energy has already been bought (or at least the sale price has been agreed) and if you dive out of a contract then the supplier is left with energy it has agreed to buy (a contract) but now doesn't have that customer to sell it to. If you are now thinking, Well it was bought months in advance they should still have it but OVO also sell excess energy as soon as they know it's available and that could be the reason why. It might be worth talking to customer services to ask if they can restore the orginal date (webchat answers can be right but often generic) and they may be able to do something but OVO are technically right not to restore your old end of contract date because you ceased the contract and OVO have a right to sell the energy bought on your behalf that is now outside the revised contract date. Peter

I have a traditional PAYG meter that has never been a problem before, even with brief power cuts. However, earlier this week, there was a longer power outage in my area and it came back on after about 10 minutes. I didn’t check the meter, as I was rushing out the door to head off to work. When I went to check the amount on the meter, with the intention of topping it up shortly, I found the screen was blank and from other conversations, it appears that my meter has gone into ‘vend mode’, as I still have power. As it is a Sunday, I shall have to wait until business hours to contact someone, but in the meantime, does this happen a lot with PAYG meters? I also read that today (21st June, 2026) there was a scheduled outage so I wouldn’t have been able to top up today anyway. Is it possible that the meter could reset itself, or would an engineer need to come and look at the meter? Thanks
